Tigers, Bulldogs advance wrestlers to regionals

File Photo MAYVILLE — The Bendle and Bentley wrestling teams participated in the Div. 4 individual wrestling district at Mayville last Saturday.
Bendle had three qualifiers led by Kyle Leonard’s second-place finish at 112 lbs. Leonard pinned Jackson Demmon from Sandusky in 3:21 and fell to Marlette’s Andy Bowman in the finals by fall.
Jacob Low took third at 130 by defeating Kyle Giddings of Mayville, 19-4, losing to Marlette’s Nate Byrnes, 8-6, pinning Cass City’s Blake Lebioda in 4:55 and pinning Mayville’s Kyle Baxter in 4:41.
Jacob McDaniel was the final qualifier for the Tigers with a fourth-place finish. McDaniel lost to Valley Lutheran’s Jacob Kaufmann in 1:44, pinned Zach Gomes of Mayville in 2:47, beat Cass City’s Nick Adkins by default and lost to Bad Axe’s Jacob Taylor, 15-10.
Bentley’s Chance Wegner was runner up at 145 lbs. after losing to Aaron Bauman of New Lothrop, 3-2, in the finals. Nick Haywood also qualified for regionals at 152 lbs. taking fourth in the district.
Bendle and Bentley will travel to New Lothrop on Saturday to participate in regional No. 14-4.
