Mysterious fire partially destroys home

BURTON — A 2-year-old and a 4-year-old were among four individuals who luckily survived a house fire August 13. Flames burst out in the home in the 5000 block of East Bristol Road, just east of Genesee Road.

Firefighters from all three Burton fire stations arrived to the scene shortly before 8:30 p.m. and flames were seen through the roof on about 25 percent of the house. Fortunately, firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic.

“Any attic fire is a challenge because it’s in a confined space,” said Assistant Fire Chief Kirk Wilkinson of the Burton Fire Department. Davison-Richfield firefighters also assisted with putting out the fire. Burton police closed off traffic between Genesee Road and Hodgins Parkway because of it.

The fire was related to a grill on the back deck of the house. “I’m sure the family was shaken up,” Wilkinson said “I know that’s something no family wants to go through. It was an accident. We were able to handle it quickly, and it’s a good thing nobody got hurt.” — T.T.
