Pastie luncheon

BURTON —Burton VFW Post 2777 will host a fresh hot pastie luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. August 21 at the post, located at 2260 S. Belsay Road. The lunch will include pastie, gravy, salad and cupcake for only $8. Fresh pasties will also be available for sale for $5, which includes gravy. Dine in or take out. — T.T.

Hamburger night

GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP — The public is welcome to attend hamburger night held from 5-10 p.m. every Friday at Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 822, G-5065 S. Saginaw St. Hamburgers will be sold for $3, hot dogs for $2, BLTs for $3, grilled cheese for $2 and cheeseburgers for $3.50. Attendees can add fries or onion rings for $1. Build a bat house

BURTON — For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum presents Citizen Science: Build a Bat House from 6-7:30 p.m. August 22 at 2142 N. Genesee Rd. A little brown bat can eat 1,000 mosquitos per hour at night. Participants in this program will help keep bats in the area by building them their own bat house to roost in and raise their young. This program is suitable for all ages and offered free of charge. Preregistration is required by August 20. Details and registration: geneseecountyparks.org. — T.T.

Microwave cooking

BURTON — The Burton Senior Activity Center offers a free microwave cooking class at 10 a.m. August 14, at 3410 S. Grand Traverse. Participants learn to make easy, healthy recipes in the microwave oven. Recipes will be given for all dishes made. This month’s recipe is harvest vegetables. Those interested are asked to register in advance of the class by calling or stopping by the senior center. — T.T.
